When Nothing Is The Same

You know that feeling. You see a familiar driveway, and suddenly nothing is the same as you remember.

I experienced that recently when I walked up to a driveway where my favorite childhood home should have been. Except it wasn't there.

A park had replaced it. And the creek where I played for hours a day was now a deep concrete culvert!

I had seen the empty lot several years before, so I wasn't surprised by what I saw. But standing there in that moment, I felt sad and lonely all over again.

Maybe you've experienced that feeling too. Life keeps changing—all the time.

Some days the changes are good. Other days they're exasperating.

Sometimes we welcome them, and sometimes we find ourselves longing for something—or someone—that used to be. In the midst of it all I know The One who NEVER changes.

The Word of The Lord WILL last forever.

Jesus Christ IS the same yesterday, today, and forever. Now that’s real comfort!

“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.” — Isaiah 40:8 (ESV)

And then there is this promise:

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” — Hebrews 13:8 ESV)

The house may be gone. The creek is no more. The familiar places of our lives may look completely different from what we remember.

Jesus is still Lord of all!

He is my place of comfort and stability when everything around me changes.

He wants to be your comfort, too.

The Call to Action:

Think of one place, person, or season of life that has changed.

Take a moment to acknowledge what you miss. Then remind yourself of this truth:

Jesus has not changed. He knows, and He cares.

Let this be where you rest today.

today’s radiant insight:

When life changes, Jesus Christ remains the same.
