Two Transformative Words

Two words. I hear these two words, and everything changes in an instant. “Hello, loves.”

One of my daughters begins almost every family text that way. The way she says it is almost melodic. I’ve read and heard those words so often they’ve become part of my own vocabulary.

Now I find myself greeting others the same way—not out of habit, but out of genuine affection. The names spoken over us have a remarkable way of becoming part of who we believe we are.

My sister often reminds me that God calls her lov-e-ly. Then she’ll smile and remind me He says the very same thing about me:

“O my dove, in the clefts of the rock, in the crannies of the cliff, let me see your face, let me hear your voice, for your voice is sweet, and your face is lovely.” — Song of Solomon 2:14 (ESV)

Another circle of dear friends used to greet everyone with, “Hello, dear ones all.”

Three different greetings.

Three different voices.

One common thread.

Love spoken aloud changes the atmosphere. It makes people feel seen, welcomed, and valued. Those simple words often linger long after the conversation ends.

So it makes me wonder... What are the people in your life calling you?

And just as importantly... What are you calling the people God has entrusted to you?

Words carry life. May ours reflect the heart of the One who first called us His own.

“Hello, love.”
