Everyone Searches for Something (or Someone)

But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who long for you say, The Lord is great! (Psalm 70:4 NIV)

Let me tell ya, we need to tell our flesh some things to get it to line up, whether it’s to have a victorious year, a pleasant night’s sleep, or simply to reset heading into the next hour or few days. A very good place to start is by exalting the Lord! Let’s break it down real quick here.

The Psalter is saying:

  • I seek you.

  • I long for your saving help!

  • I say the Lord is GREAT!

Seeking God brings joy and gladness. God is a very present help in times of trouble and provides a way for eternal salvation as well. In every situation, whether it’s a need or deliverance, gratitude for God’s greatness, expressed in our words and actions, can turn our greatest needs into seeds.

Why is this so vitally important?

We see in Psalm 35:27 that God delights in the well-being and wholeness of His faithful followers. Neither people nor things ultimately give us lasting success or contentment. We get to remind ourselves that it is God who upholds us. He alone is a righteous judge (Psalm 9:4 NIV).

Because He is a righteous judge, we know the Lord secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy (Psalm 140:12 NIV). So let me ask you:

What are you needy of today?

  • Is your body tired?

  • Are you emotionally drained?

  • Are you mentally fatigued?

  • Are you financially strapped?

  • Are you lonely or waiting for an unfulfilled promise to come to pass?

Everyone has needs. They just look different based on circumstances, tests, and trials.

Take Your Need to God

He recognizes when we are poor in spirit. He created us to have fellowship with Him. Go on now. Talk to Him. He longs for us to say, "Abba, Father, oh, I need you right here and now. You are wonderfully GREAT!" Then spill your guts, I mean, pour your heart out to God. He really cares and is full of hope.

I journal. Some days, more than others. I jot down needs and prayer requests for multiple people and situations. Time and again, I am able to put a check by the request where God has been faithful to meet many needs. Recently, a ring of sentimental value to me was accidentally misplaced. Days later, I was prompted to look in an unexpected place and found the ring!

today’s radiant insight

Our needs turn to seeds when we say, "Great is Yahweh!" When we express gratitude for God's greatness, we shift our focus from lack to abundance. This transformation enables us to see challenges as opportunities for growth. Expressing gratitude for God's goodness, even in difficult times, helps the seeds of hope to bloom into joy and resilience. I purposefully remind you, myself and everyone else: God is great!
